The Bakainiai Hillfort complex, located within the Krekenava Regional Park, is one of the largest hillforts in the region. Situated on a hill with two forefields and protective ramparts, this historical site is prominently visible from three sides due to the Liaudė River. The northern side is protected by a natural embankment. The hillfort, mentioned in 1372 in Teutonic Order documents, dates back to the 2nd millennium BC to the 15th century. Today, the complex is adapted for visitors, featuring a parking lot, stairs, and outdoor seating areas. Traditional celebrations, such as the Midsummer festival (Joninės) and King Mindaugas' Coronation Day, are marked here with impressive bonfires and music. A new glass stand provides visual insights into the fortifications of the past, requiring visitors to find the right viewing angle for a complete experience.
