Situated in the historically significant Petrauskai house, the Freedom Struggle Museum is an impressive location that once hosted NKVD and KGB operations. This site has been transformed into a museum where exhibitions meticulously recreate the history of Lithuanian partisans and their struggles for freedom using modern multimedia technologies. Visitors can step into authentically restored torture chambers, where the horror of the past can still be felt. Aged mirrors and post-war songs intertwine with dramatic visuals, allowing visitors to sense and understand the sufferings endured by the
partisans. During the museum's opening, Lazdijai district mayor Ausma Miškinienė highlighted the museum's importance: by opening the cells where partisans were imprisoned, visitors can feel gratitude for today's freedom. Educational activities, seminars, and history lessons organized by the museum provide deeper insights into the history of partisan struggles and deportations. This museum is dedicated not only to teaching history but also to preserving the memory of the freedom struggles and deportations, making it one of the most important cultural tourism sites in the region.
