The site includes a wooden well, an old maple tree, and a commemorative stone in the granary’s yard inscribed to mark Daukantas’s birth in 1793. The ensemble of Simonas Daukantas’s birthplace, located in Žemaitija, offers a unique historical tourism experience, allowing visitors to connect with the life of one of Lithuania’s most celebrated writers and historians. In place of the former family dwelling, barn, and storage buildings, a restored granary now operates as a memorial museum. Visitors can view exhibits detailing Daukantas's life, works, and legacy. The main room of the granary presents his literary accomplishments, while another room is dedicated to his friend, botanist Jurgis Pabrėža. The yard of the granary hosts a commemorative stone marking Daukantas’s birth and his significance to Lithuanian literature. The
homestead also retains an old well and a century-old maple that recalls Daukantas’s youth, when he would rest in its shade after hard labor. A pond on the grounds once served both for washing and watering livestock. Adjacent to the granary stands a father-and-son sculpture as a tribute, symbolizing Daukantas’s departure to pursue studies in Vilnius. At the heart of the ensemble is a statue of S. Daukantas with his famous quote: “I will take joy and delight in having been the first Lithuanian to carve a path for wiser men to write.” This historical heritage site, protected by the state, stands as an enduring symbol of Lithuanian cultural heritage.
