The Orthodox Church in Skuodas, established in the late 19th century, is a unique cultural heritage site (unique code – 37498). In September 1886, a stone church was opened, initially operating within a prison cell. The first altar was dedicated to St. Alexander Nevsky. A wooden bell tower was built in 1888, and a new stone church was completed in 1905. Although the building suffered damage during World War II, it was restored; however, due to the absence of an Orthodox community, the church has since been placed under the care of Skuodas Municipality. This historic site reflects the rich religious and cultural heritage of Skuodas, attracting tourists seeking unique experiences.

The Orthodox Church in Skuodas, a notable cultural heritage site (unique code – 37498), has a deep and fascinating history. Established in the late 19th century, this church reflects the evolution of religious traditions in Lithuania. In September 1886, a stone church was opened, which gradually became the center of religious life. Initially set up in a prison cell, the altar, dedicated to St. Alexander Nevsky, embodied the spirituality of the Orthodox community. The church has undergone many changes: a wooden bell tower was constructed in 1888, and a new stone
building was built in 1905 with funds from the state treasury. Although it was damaged during the wars, when the Soviets took Skuodas in 1944, the church was affected and subsequently left unused. The building has served various religious communities over time: Lutherans, Roman Catholics, and, finally, Russian Orthodox. Currently, as there is no Orthodox community in Skuodas, the church is under the guardianship of the city municipality. This history not only reveals Skuodas's cultural heritage but also attracts tourists seeking unique and authentic experiences.
