The Lazdijai region takes pride in its notable figures, including priest and ethnographer Jonas Reitelaitis. Born on November 23, 1884, in Navasodai, Marijampolė County, he graduated from the Sejny Theological Seminary in 1913. From 1926 until his death on November 30, 1966, he lived in Krikštonys, where he established a parish and designed and built the Krikštonys Church. Reitelaitis wrote numerous monographs on towns, churches, and parishes, collecting folklore, customs, and historical materials. He was also known as a healer. Today, his former home in Krikštonys houses a memorial museum, which is an important attraction for tourism enthusiasts and cultural heritage lovers.
