Emilija Pliaterytė Monument in Vainežeris Manor Park

Emilija Pliaterytė, called the "Joan of Arc of Lithuania," is one of the most prominent figures of the 1831 uprising. The rebels she led, along with her cousin Cezaris Pliateris, stood out for their bravery in battles from Zarasai to Kaunas. Retreating towards Prussia, Emilija was injured, and her journey ended in Vainežeris, where she died on December 23, 1831. Her story, heroism, and tragedy are preserved at the Emilija Pliaterytė Museum in Kapčiamiestis Secondary School and in impressive monuments in the center of Kapčiamiestis and at Vainežeris Manor, including a rare memorial of a kneeling soldier. Today, Emilija’s legacy serves not only as historical memory but as a source of inspiration for freedom fighters worldwide.
