Mosėdis Hillfort, located on the bank of the Bartuva River near the town of Mosėdis, is recognized as a historical cultural heritage site. This hillfort, in use since the 1st millennium, reveals ancient defensive structures such as ramparts and ditches. In the 16th–17th centuries, a manor was established here, leading to significant changes to the hillfort: the ramparts were leveled, the ditch was filled in, and the site was urbanized. Today, part of the hillfort's platform has been turned into a garden, leveled, and paved, though historical elements still remain. Mosėdis Hillfort was included in the Lithuanian Cultural Heritage Register in 1997 and is protected by the state.

This hillfort, an important site of historical and cultural significance, sits on the left bank of the Bartuva near Mosėdis and is among Lithuania's earliest defensive structures. The irregular oval platform spans 100x60 meters, with remnants of ramparts and ditches on its southern and western sides, remaining as a 50-meter-long, 24-meter-wide, and 6-meter-deep ditch. The hillfort’s history spans from the 1st millennium to the 13th century, and Mosėdis Castle was first mentioned in written sources in 1253, in the Southern Courland Division Act signed in Kuldiga. In the 16th

century, a manor was established on Mosėdis Hillfort, which suffered significant damage during the Swedish Wars but remained in use until 1842. During the Soviet era, the manor was nationalized and later became a local administrative center, with the settlement expanding around the hillfort. Today, visitors can reach the hillfort by traveling to Mosėdis and heading towards Bartuva, where historical objects, restored old structures, and ancient ceramic fragments can be seen. Mosėdis Hillfort is registered as part of Lithuania’s cultural heritage and is protected by the state.
