The Šakaliai Hillfort (Pilė) is a remnant of ancient Curonian culture preserved on the left bank of the Erla River in Skuodas District. This hillfort features a rectangular platform measuring approximately 60x35 meters and is oriented west-east. In the past, the site was surrounded by a massive rampart on the south, west, and north sides, stretching 170 meters in length and 16 meters in width. Over time, especially due to intensive plowing, the rampart has nearly disappeared: in 1948, it still reached a height of 1 meter, but by 2004, only about 0.2 meters remained. Beneath the rampart was a ditch, which has since been filled in, and the steep slopes, reaching up to 6 meters in height, reveal the natural landscape of the area.
