Elzė Aravičiūtė-Gegutė, born in 1925 in Janėnai village (in the Šventežeris parish), grew up in a family of nine children, where Catholic and patriotic values were cherished. In 1945, she joined the Lithuanian partisans, becoming a liaison and later a partisan known as "Gegutė." On April 2, 1948, Elzė was captured by Soviet occupiers and Lithuanian collaborators. After two days of torture, refusing to betray her comrades, she chose to die. On the night of April 4, while being led to the bunker of Antanas Muliuolis-Gruodis, she misled her captors and jumped into the ice-covered Senkučio Lake, remaining true to the partisan oath.
