This site, located in the Krosna region (now part of Lazdijai district), is significant to the history of partisan struggles. On April 18, 1945, in the Buktos Forest, members of the Tauro Partisan District engaged in a battle with the NKVD border troops. During the skirmish, 14 partisans from the Perkūnas battalion were killed, and an additional 19 were shot during the pursuit. In total, witnesses report 5 to 6 partisans who lost their lives, including well-known heroes such as Juozas Barulis (born 1925 in Naujavalakiai), Juozas Pauža (born 1925 in Naujavalakiai), Juozas Rėkus (born 1912 in Skersbalys), and Juozas Šmitas (born 1927 in Tūriškiai).
