Vladas Venckūnas, better known by his codename Jovaras, was born on March 11, 1924, in the Lazdijai District, in the village of Nemajūnai, Šventežeris Municipality. In his youth, at just twenty years old, he joined the partisans led by Jonas Neifaltas-Lakūnas. The partisan activities were well-known among the local population, as there was at least one partisan in every house in the village of Giraitė.
On May 15, 1945, Vladas, along with his brother Jonas, participated in the Battle of Kalniškė. Although he managed to survive, he died two months later, with the circumstances of his death remaining unknown. In the operational
file, he was recorded as Vladas Venckūnas, born in 1925, belonging to the “Mindaugas” squad since April 1945 and killed in August 1945 (the exact date of death was not specified).
On November 12, 2023, at the initiative of A. Kamarūnas, a memorial stone and cross were unveiled in honor of Vladas Venckūnas at the site of his death. Later, on December 8, 2023, the remains of Vladas Venckūnas-Jovaras were buried at the Šventežeris Cemetery.
