In 1822, the landowner M. Gauronskis built a chapel in Šlavantai, which was moved to Šventežeris in 1880. In 1919, Father Juozas Galeckas acquired the Šlavantai estate and the following year established a new parish, uniting the villages of Lazdijai, Šventežeris, and Veisiejai. In 1921, the current church was constructed from the estate's barn. In 1938, the building was renovated due to wood fungus. After World War II, the church underwent repairs, including the replacement of altars, the installation of new ceilings in the central nave, and interior decoration. The church is situated on flat ground with a rectangular churchyard. It features a three-nave layout, and the main altar, crafted by master A. Soraka, is in the Neo-Gothic style. The organ loft, located above the entrance, is enclosed with a decorative wooden fence, creating a cozy atmosphere.
