On December 26, 1951, a confrontation occurred at the bunker set up in Juozas Grėbliūnas' homestead with the Soviet army, resulting in the deaths of five partisans from the Dainava district's Šarūnas battalion. During the siege, the battalion commander Alfonsas Petruškevičius, known as Rimvydas, who was from Žagariai village (now part of Poland), was killed, along with Jonas Uzdila, known as Vieversys, the commander of the Mindaugas battalion, Algirdas Marcinkevičius, known as Laimė, the leader of the 1st platoon, Jurgis Adomavičius, known as Artojas, and Vladas Jarmala, known as Ąžuolas. After the battle, Juozas Grėbliūnas, a supporter of the partisans, was captured; he was born in 1919.
