In the town of Seirijai, in the historic NKVD building, partisans, their couriers, supporters, and other Lithuanian patriots were imprisoned, tortured, and killed from 1944 to 1953. This place, marked by painful memories, has become a symbol of the struggle for freedom. In 2018, commemorating the defenders of Freedom Day, a monument dedicated to the partisans’ struggle was ceremoniously unveiled and consecrated here, honoring the heroes who sacrificed themselves for Lithuania's independence. The monument was created by the talented sculptor Juozas Videika, who immortalized the memory of these heroes. The cross was
consecrated by Father Sigitas Bitkauskas, the parish priest of Seirijai's Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Scapular. During the unveiling ceremony, soldiers from the 108th Company of the Dainava District First Battalion fired honor salutes to pay tribute to the NKVD victims and emphasize the significance of this event. The Seirijai monument is not only a historical site but also a place that invites reflection on the courage and sacrifice that accompany our nation's struggles for freedom. This symbol serves as a reminder of the lessons of history and encourages us to honor those who fought for our future.
