On November 23, 2018, the Lazdijai region celebrated the Day of the Lithuanian Army, a special occasion to remember and honor the partisans who fought for independence. On this occasion, a monument dedicated to freedom fighters was ceremonially unveiled in Seirijai to commemorate their heroism and sacrifice. The monument was created by renowned sculptor Jonas Jagėla, featuring a granite structure nearly five meters tall. Composed of several interconnected crosses, this monument symbolizes both the tragic fate of the partisans and their belief
that Lithuania would become free. The predominant motifs of the cross and windows evoke hope that returning loved ones will be seen through the windows of their homeland. The monument was consecrated by Archbishop Sigitas Tamkevičius, and its construction was initiated by the Lithuanian Genocide and Resistance Research Centre in collaboration with the Lazdijai District Municipality. This prominent symbol not only adorns the Lazdijai region but also serves as a reminder of the partisans' struggle, encouraging us to cherish our freedom.
