On January 19, 1949, in Kirtiliškės village, near the Grėbliūnai homestead, a battle took place between the partisans of the Mindaugas group of the Dainava district's Šarūnas battalion and a Soviet MGB unit, which included 9 operatives, 30 soldiers, and 50 stribai (local auxiliary police). The skirmish lasted for 2 hours, during which 8 out of 18 partisans were killed. Among them were Jonas Jančė-Kovas, head of the communications section of the Šarūnas battalion and the Mindaugas battalion staff, and other fighters: Jonas Janulevičius-Lašas, Pranas Kliučinskas, Zigmas Lisauskas-Kancleris, Antanas Maksimavičius-Mauras, Jonas Navickas-Šernas, and Juozas Riškevičius-Varnėnas. Vladas Smalinskas-Ulonas, who withdrew from the fight, was killed nearby in Nemajūnai village.
