On November 5, 1949, in the Živulciškės Forest, the MGB organized an operation based on a report from agent “Eglė,” indicating that partisans were hiding in a bunker near the house of forester Varževičienė. The operation was led by MGB Minister’s Assistant Kučiuginas and Major Aleksejevas, head of the Lazdijai department, with the participation of Bogomolovas, head of the Alytus department, and a group of 30 soldiers. During the battle, the partisans, fighting for freedom, ultimately chose to take their own lives. Juozas Juškevičius-Linas and Albertas Kėkštas-Kęstutis, both fighters from the A. Juozapavičius battalion of the Dainava district's Šarūnas battalion, were killed. A monument dedicated to these partisans was erected by Bronius Kašelionis from Krikštoniai village at his own expense, with the blacksmith work carried out by Juozas Varnelis from Veisiejai.
