On this site, on December 20, 1945, during a confrontation with an NKVD unit, the commander of the Dainava district's Veisiejai battalion, Stasys Soroka-Mindaugas, born in 1926 (or 1924) in Paveisininkai village, now in the Lazdijai district, was killed along with his adjutant, Leonas Ivoška-Lapinas, born in 1925 in Petroškų village. On May 1 (or 7), 1945, by the order No. D 10 of Lieutenant Colonel Kazimieraitis, the commander of the Southern Lithuania partisans, Stasys Soroka-Mindaugas was appointed as the commander of the Veisiejai battalion. Both fallen partisans are buried in Veisiejai, with their grave site code listed in the Cultural Heritage Register as 22015.
