On October 2, 1949, a brutal confrontation occurred in the village of Stebuliai between the Mindaugas battalion partisans of the Dainava district and the Soviet MGB army. In the battle, freedom fighters Vytautas Neimanas-Jaunuotis (born in 1930 in the village of Šulnelių, Lazdijų district) and Vytautas Tuinyla-Karys (born in 1929 in the village of Kalesninkai, Lazdijų district) lost their lives. After the fight, the bodies of the partisans were desecrated in the town of Krosna. It is believed that their remains were buried behind the cemetery, in the parish's peat bog, but the exact location is unknown.
