On March 19, 1948, an event occurred in Laibagaliai village, near the Krukonis homestead, marking a significant moment in the history of partisans in the Dainava district. An MGB operational group from Šventežeris, led by Senior Lieutenant Minakov, killed the commander of the Šarūnas battalion, Vincas Mikelionis-Vargdienis, who was born in 1912 in Bajoriškės village, Veisiejai district. This partisan, who arrived at Krukonis armed with a pistol, was forced to retreat upon noticing the chekists. His death at this location serves as a reminder of the courage and resistance that partisans exhibited while fighting for Lithuania's freedom. Laibagaliai village and its surroundings offer history enthusiasts the opportunity to learn about the struggles and legacy of the Lithuanian partisans.
