The Ąžuolija Forest, located in the Utena district, Leliūnai municipality, is a beautiful natural area characterized by a rich variety of broadleaf tree species such as oaks, aspens, ashes, and linden trees. This forest represents the northern part of the broadleaf forests of Central Europe and covers an area of 305 hectares. The Ąžuolija Forest is one of the largest oak forests in the Utena district, making up 15% of the total forest area in the region. About one-third of this oak forest belongs to Ąžuolija.
Educational trails
To reach the location from the city of Utena, take the A14 highway (Utena - Vilnius). At the fifth kilometer, you will come to the site of the former railway bridge. Turn left onto the small road just before the bridge and park your car a short distance down this road (GPS: 55.464136, 25.571232 WGS). Next, continue walking straight along the path. Following the signs, you will arrive at an informational stand marking the beginning of the trail, where you can visit 14 trail stops. The walk from the parked car to the educational trail is approximately 700 meters.
