Between 1945 and 1949, twenty-seven partisans sacrificed their lives for Lithuania's freedom in the village of Kubiliai. Among them was Antanas Mintautiškis, the commander of the Lion Battalion, who died in 1947 while fighting for the independence of his homeland. On July 3, 2004, a commemoration of Lithuania's freedom fighters took place in Kubiliai village to honor the fallen warriors of the Perkūnas Squad of the Lion Battalion of the Vytautas District. On this occasion, a monument created by sculptor Kęstutis Musteikis was unveiled and blessed by priest Povilas Klezys.
