Upon arriving in Užpaliai, you will first be greeted by the monument to St. Florian, located in the center of the town. He is considered the patron saint of fires and firefighters. This saint was chosen as the guardian of Užpaliai not by chance, as the town has been ravaged by fires numerous times. It is believed that a wooden sculpture depicting a young man in military attire pouring water on a burning house was erected at the end of the 19th century or after a fire in 1912. Later, in 1933, under the leadership of Father A. Paurys, the wooden monument was replaced with a concrete sculpture, which featured Christ with a cross on one side and St. Florian on the other.

A. Paurys, the wooden monument was replaced with a concrete sculpture, which featured Christ with a cross on one side and St. Florian on the other. Despite the town being shelled and bombed during World War II, the monument remained untouched. However, it was demolished in 1963. Based on old photographs and accounts from local residents, the monument was restored in 1991. Every spring, with the support of the Užpaliai municipality, the St. Florian festival takes place, attracting local firefighters and their community.
