The Daugailiai Hillfort, dating back to the 1st–2nd millennium, is a significant archaeological site first mentioned in 1254. It is believed that Daugailiai Castle once stood here as a defensive structure. In the late 17th century, the first Daugailiai church was built on the hillfort, with a cemetery in its churchyard and burials extending to the slopes. The church was later destroyed by lightning, and legend says it sank into the ground, leaving its altars with saintly images at the hillfort’s base, where a new church was built.

In 1990, an ornamented wooden cross was erected on the hillfort to honor the first church. Older residents remember the hillfort being covered with wild strawberries, which local children used to gather. Today, it offers a scenic view of the town.

Nearby, the birthplace of Algimantas Petras Kavoliukas, who perished on January 13, 1991, adds to the site’s historical significance.
