The Orthodox community of Kėdainiai was established in 1645 when Prince Jonušas Radvila married Maria Lupu. In 1854, Count Marijonas Čapskis donated a brick building to the Orthodox believers, which was later converted into a church based on the design of architect S. Ikonikov. After a fire in 1893, its reconstruction was financed by Pyotr Stolypin. In the early 20th century, a master from Saint Petersburg decorated the walls and ceilings, giving the church unique artistic value.
Today, the church retains its wall paintings, several icons, and valuable elements of Orthodox heritage. Nearby, a memorial plaque dedicated to Pyotr Stolypin, created by sculptor Romas Vilčiauskas and designer Arvydas Urbelis, was unveiled in 2012.
The church can be visited during services; at other times, visits must be arranged in advance.
