Inspired by the characters in the book Frog's Dreams and memories of great-grandparents from Lithuania and Poland, who became childhood storytellers, artist Judy Tuwaletstiwa painted a sunflower on the wall of a building. This sunflower embodies the core theme of the book, where the Storyteller gifts dreams to Frog. In one of the dreams, Frog must sacrifice his heart to death. When the dream is fulfilled, the Storyteller divides into many storytellers, like sunflower seeds. This artwork symbolizes each of us as storytellers of our own lives, with the sunflower seeds representing our dreams, which, once realized, bloom and grow. Thanks to the young volunteer artists of Marijampolė, this piece brings the souls of the artist’s great-grandparents back to their homeland, with the sunflower seeds symbolizing all of us, creating our world through personal stories.
The author of this drawing is Judy Tuwaletstiwa.
